Usage notes: * On an M1 Mac, this will run in emulation. It is slow, so be prepared for that. Feel free to tweak settings, as there may be ways to make it faster! * After downloading, you'll need to decompress the VM with bzip2: bzip2 -d cs230-pintos.qcow2.bz2 * Create a new VM, add this file as a drive. (both IDE and virtio work fine - theoretically, virtio is faster) * The VM requires legacy (a.k.a. CSM) boot -- so disable UEFI. That's in "System" and hidden by the "Show Advanced Settings" checkbox. Disable "UEFI Boot". * The default display card apparently only supports 640x480, which is basically unusable. Switching to qxl-vga defaults to XGA resolution, but you can turn it up to 1080p with the "Displays" settings in the VM. * Networking works fine on either the emulated Realtek default or virtio-net-pci, which will theoretically have better performance. * Feel free to tweak settings, as there may be ways to make it faster! We'd love to know if you find a setting which improves performance.
